Statement
My practice is currently engaged in a variety of processes that explore materiality and image making. The dialogue possible between a representation, the surface this occupies and its final presentation is something I try and explore with my work. I find the possibility inherent in the complexities of this relationship, and how this determines the function and readability of the work, very interesting. I often get caught up in the physicality of the materials I use, which tends to structure the evolution of a piece of work. I am currently attempting to re-examine how the work relates to the outside world. Past work has usually consisted of a painted image and a series of accompanying understructures, with the image being the sole element to refer to anything outside of the work. By re-thinking this, I am beginning to foster an increased level of openness in the work, allowing its components parts; image and understructures, to question both its interior and exterior. The possibility of how adding a questioning of exterior referencing to the list of component elements that form my work will, I hope, allow it to enter more freely into wider dialogues.
