Statement
Kristin Cross’ work is concerned with analysis. She is interested in the detailed examination of objects; of their processing, identification and labelling. Her intent is to understand different ways of reorganizing and re-explaining common elements from our surroundings.
The pieces she chooses to work with she see as artefacts from our everyday lives, objects that represent a collective memory. Kristin works primarily with wood objects from our built environment such as doors, windows and mouldings. The pieces are dissected, ordered and labelled in an attempt to unveil a hidden history. They are then ‘preserved’ and ‘protected’ in resin; the resin visually and functionally representing the display aspect of museum collections.
